Community

Community; a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.

Constantly Varied

Routine is the enemy 

It is very easy for our bodies, and minds, to get really bored with repetitive workouts and doing the same routines every week (choreographed fitness classes, upper body one day and lower body the next, etc.)  Routine is what keeps us from reaching our goals and our full potentials! In CrossFit, the only routine we recommend and ask of you is to attend class consistently! We involve movements/workouts that continually change; this allows us to remain excited about training, keeps us from getting bored and ultimately we avoid hitting those darn plateaus in our overall health.

Functional Movements

Preparation for the demands that life has to offer

Our goal is to help you be prepared for the unknown.  Safely lifting and carrying a heavy object, chasing a missed bus, squatting to the couch with ease and no pain, keeping up with grandchildren and their endless energy, working on home projects, hiking back up the hill to grab the ski that fell off...these are all great examples of where CrossFit can help you be better at life! These functional (every day life) movements are what we focus on so that you can do all of the things you want to do while feeling capable, confident, healthy and ready for more.

Often the demands in our lives can be unknown; we need to be ready for them regardless of what they are.  Thus, we work through the following skills in our training to help prepare you for life.

High Intentisy

The dance between what is comfortable and uncomfortable 

We push ourselves to get uncomfortable so that we can elicit changes in our bodies.  It is quite impossible for our lives to change for the better if we choose to continue to go in the exact same direction and never push the 'intensity envelope'.  Our truth is that challenging ourselves with intensity is WAY more fun and less scary with the help of knowledgeable coaches, friends in class, and, arguably, most importantly, the endless modifications we can give to each individual.  


Staying efficient, effective and safe 

We want our members to get outside of their comfort zones and surprise themselves with what they can do; at the same time, we recognize that every individual is different and that intensity is relative!  Athletes may come to us with pre-existing injuries, limitations and fears, and that is OKAY.  We can adjust workouts for each and every individual so that the intensity remains alongside intentional and safe modifications.  (Check out this article, courtesy of CrossFit Inc. on how even the seemingly hardest workout can be scaled to suit your abilities)

We know this...our members know this...and the intensity, coupled with the constantly varied movements is part of the science behind why it works.

Health

CrossFit is more than exercise

The program, as a whole, is a vehicle for the community to go from "sick" to "well" to "fit".  By surrounding yourself with others who care about you and your well-being, you will find that your mental health will improve, you will be able to get off medications and feel overall more confident.  Many members lower their blood pressure, body fat and improve their cholesterol levels as well.  


Nutrition

Nutrition plays a HUGE role in our health and wellness and is the foundation, or base, of developing positive health changes.  The CrossFit Nutrition Prescription is simple, direct and effective; "Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar.  Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat." Finding Life Balance

When asking our community "What does being healthy mean to you?" there is a wide range and variety of answers; mental health, working out, clean/balanced eating, getting enough sleep, laughing daily, etc.  This tells us that being "healthy" is not just about a number on the scale, or measuring our food...it is about finding a balance of ALL of these things so that we can live our best lives every single day.

We encourage our members and Team to track the health measures below so that we can monitor our overall health as individuals as well as from a Team perspective; each quarter, we update our "Sickness-Wellness-Fitness" meter based on the averages of DeNovo CrossFit athletes.   Check out our FAQ if you have more questions.
