How did you discover CrossFit?
Back in the Miramont days (2017), my wife wanted to try it so we did.
What draws you to DeNovo CrossFit?
The people. I’ve made lots of friends over the years, it’s one of my “happy places.”
What do you feel is your biggest accomplishment in CrossFit and in life?
CrossFit: Hard to say, but the idea that I can do some of the crazy CrossFit workouts at 57 years old makes me feel mentally strong and a lot more willing to tackle other challenges in my life.
In life: being happily married for 24 years and still going strong!
What athlete/s at DeNovo inspire you to be the best version of yourself each and every day?
So many, of course Michael Z and Roberto, my two favorite workout friends/ foes, but so many others, the top excellent athletes and the folks working really hard to get better, everyone inspires me.
What is your pet peeve?
People who make assumptions and don’t check the facts.
What/who inspires you?
Reading the Bible every day keeps me grounded and inspires me, and also gives me lots of insight about how to negotiate life.
Favorite workout song.
Jorine’s heavy metal playlist(best air guitar music ever)!
What advice would you have for anyone who is nervous to join DeNovo?
Watching a workout can be intimidating. Just give it a shot, and remember, no body really cares how well you do at it, they just want you to do your best.
What do you enjoy doing outside of CrossFit, both for fun and professionally?
For fun: riding bikes ( mountain bikes, road bikes, gravel bike and dirt bikes (motorcycles)).
Professionally: planning for retirement. I’m an engineer, but I want to be retired when I grow up.
If we were sitting here one year from now, what would we be celebrating together?
My second child graduating from college and getting a real job (being off the payroll)
This is a tough one, who knows what we will be celebrating, hopefully we will be celebrating another year of success and growing stronger and being a better version of myself!
Yes, that’s really it.
Favorite CrossFit movement?
Cleans. Or maybe pull ups. Depends on the day. Believe it or not, I really like devils press too.
What are you currently reading?
A pretty cool book about a guy who is a border control officer on the Mexican boarder, and all the unbelievable things that are happening with illegal immigration. It is really eye opening, especially with the perspective of growing up in Colorado, which is pretty much heaven.
What are you thankful for?
My family and friends. It sounds cliche, but they are the best things in life
